Parking Enforcement
Parking enforcement within the Village of Hobart is administered by the Department of Public Safety and executed by the Hobart Police Department. Enforcement applies to all public streets, Village-owned lots, and metered zones within the incorporated area.
General Regulations
- Parking is prohibited on Village streets between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM unless otherwise posted
- Metered spaces are enforced Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Vehicles may not remain in the same metered space for more than two consecutive hours
- Fire lanes and hydrant zones are enforced at all times
- Handicapped parking violations are subject to state penalties
Seasonal & Event Restrictions
Temporary parking restrictions may be imposed during snow operations, street maintenance, special events, and emergency conditions. Advance notice is posted when possible. Vehicles in violation of temporary restrictions are subject to citation and may be towed at the owner's expense.
During snow emergencies, parking on designated snow routes is prohibited. Snow route designations are posted on-street and announced through PAL-TV.
Citations
Parking citations are issued by the Hobart Police Department. Citations are placed on the vehicle at the time of the violation.
Payment: Citations may be paid at Village Hall (110 Court St) during business hours or by mail. Payment is due within 30 days of issuance.
Appeals: Citation appeals must be submitted in writing to the Clerk's Office within 14 days of issuance. The Department does not adjudicate appeals by phone.
Towing
Vehicles may be towed for repeated violations, obstruction of emergency access, or violation of temporary restrictions during declared emergencies. Towing is coordinated through the Department of Public Safety. The Village is not responsible for storage fees incurred after towing.
