Catalytic Converter Theft Advisory
The Department of Public Safety is aware of an ongoing increase in catalytic converter thefts within and adjacent to Village limits. Residents are advised to park in well-lit areas when possible and report suspicious activity to the Department during business hours or to 911 if a crime is in progress.
The Department does not require additional descriptions of damage, theories of origin, or hand-drawn maps of suspected activity. An investigation is ongoing.
Department of Public Safety
The Department of Public Safety coordinates law enforcement, emergency response, and public safety administration for the Village of Hobart. The Department oversees the Hobart Police Department (HPD), emergency coordination with Fire and EMS services, parking enforcement, and traffic control operations.
The Department operates under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, who serves in a consolidated capacity as Police Chief. Day-to-day command is delegated internally, with public accountability retained at the director level.
